About this tour
The Totumo Volcano is one of the most fun half-day trips from Cartagena. It is a small mud volcano whose crater is filled with warm, thick mud: you climb up, slide in and float, because the mud is dense enough to hold you up. Locals say it is good for the skin and the muscles.
After the mud, you walk down to the nearby lagoon (the Ciénaga del Totumo) to rinse off, usually with help from the local women who work there. Bring a swimsuit, a towel and a change of clothes; we take care of the rest.
It combines well with a Cartagena city tour or a day in the Montes de María. The Bolívar region has other, smaller mud volcanoes too, and we can suggest the best option for your group.
