Colombian Amazon · Tres Fronteras

The Colombian Amazon in 60 seconds

Where is it?
In the far south of Colombia, where Colombia, Brazil and Peru meet on the Amazon River. Our base is Leticia, with day trips to Tabatinga (Brazil), Puerto Nariño and indigenous communities.
How many days do you need?
Four days cover Leticia, Mocagua and Puerto Nariño. Five days add a treehouse night, community visits or a lodge stay.
When should you go?
All year. High water (December to mid-June) means flooded forest and more rain; low water (July to November) brings river beaches and higher temperatures.
How do you get there?
There are no roads into Leticia. You fly in, normally connecting through Bogotá. Our packages start with an airport pick-up.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do I need to visit the Colombian Amazon?

Plan at least 4 days: that covers Leticia, a Ticuna community in Mocagua and Puerto Nariño. Choose 5 days if you want a treehouse night, deeper community time or a stay at Burú Lodge.

How do I get to the Amazon from Cartagena?

Leticia has no road access, so you fly. From Cartagena you normally connect through Bogotá to Leticia. Arrive before noon on the first day, and if your last night is in Puerto Nariño or Mocagua, book the return after 11:40 a.m.

When is the best time to go?

You can travel all year. High water (December to mid-June) has more rain and flooded-forest canoe trips. Low water (July to November) is hotter, with river beaches, and luggage porters cost COP 80,000 per person extra.

What is included in the Amazon packages?

Airport pick-up and transfers, accommodation, full board, filtered water, listed activities and entrance fees, river transport, a guide, Puerto Nariño and Mocagua entry taxes, community contributions and medical assistance insurance.

What is not included?

Flights to Leticia, the Leticia entry tax (COP 50,000 per person, paid in cash at the airport), luggage porters in the dry season and expenses not listed in the package.

How does the early-booking discount work?

Book until December 31, 2026 and save 5% if your trip starts at least 60 days later, or 10% if it starts at least 90 days later.

Do children get a discount?

Children aged 3 to 10 pay 80% of the adult rate (based on 2 adults). From age 11 the adult rate applies.

What should I pack and which vaccines do I need?

Pack quick-dry long sleeves and trousers, shoes with good grip, insect repellent, sunscreen and a soft bag of up to 15 kg (no wheeled suitcases). A yellow fever vaccination is recommended; travelers arriving from Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda or Brazil need the certificate to enter Colombia.
