How to Get to Colombia's Coffee Region: Airports, Buses and Transfers

Which airport to choose (Armenia, Pereira or Manizales), how long it takes by road from Bogotá and Medellín, and how airport transfers work.

The short answer: fly into Armenia (El Edén) or Pereira (Matecaña), usually with a connection through Bogotá or Medellín. Both airports are an hour or less from the main Coffee Region villages. Our packages include airport and bus terminal transfers in Armenia, and we can arrange pick-ups in Pereira and Manizales too.

For the whole trip plan, read the Coffee Region travel guide or see our Coffee Region tours.

Which airport should you choose?

Airport Best for Notes
Armenia (El Edén) Quindío, Salento, Cocora Valley, Parque del Café Closest to most of the region; included in our package transfers
Pereira (Matecaña) Pereira, Risaralda, hot springs, Cocora Valley More flights; transfer supplement applies to packages
Manizales Caldas, city and hot-springs trips Fewer flights; quoted on request

From Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena

  • From Bogotá. Short flights connect to Armenia and Pereira. By road it takes roughly 7 to 9 hours.
  • From Medellín. By road it takes about 5 hours, or you can fly.
  • From Cartagena. Connect through Bogotá or Medellín and check for direct flights on your dates. The Coffee Region combines well with a few days in Cartagena.

Airport transfers

Our hotel packages include round-trip transfers between the Armenia airport or terminal and your hotel. If you arrive in Pereira, a transfer adds COP 80,000 per person each way. Manizales and other pick-ups are quoted on request.

Tips for arrival day

  • Book an arrival flight before early evening so you reach the hotel while it is still light.
  • The roads are winding; allow extra time for connections on departure day.
  • If you land early, add a short city tour of Armenia or Pereira.
