In short: A day trip from Medellín through the coffee towns of southwest Antioquia (Hispania, Andes and El Jardín), with waterfalls, trout farms, local sweets and, on the private tour, a coffee farm and a cable ride. Shared departures run on set days.
About this tour
Southwest Antioquia grew around its rivers and coffee slopes, and its people, the muleteers and the farmers, are part of the story. The best way to understand that coffee culture is to have a tinto in every town.
The route starts in Hispania, famous for its samanes and its pata de vaca sweets, then continues to Andes, the coffee capital of Antioquia, where farmers mix with a booming local trade in the main square. In El Jardín, one of Colombia’s heritage towns and often called the prettiest in Antioquia, you visit the trout farms and, subject to availability, see how panela is made, and rest at the Casa del Dulce and Café Macana, family businesses that turn fruit and vegetables into sweets. You also ride the Gusanito, a playful tourist transport.
The private tour adds a walk to the Cascada del Amor and the Charco Corazón, a coffee farm visit with bean-to-cup tasting, and a garrucha (cable ride) over the coffee landscape with fruit wines to try.
